The municipality of Tampico is located at the south-eastern end of the state of Tamaulipas. It borders to the south with the state of Veracruz connected by the Tampico Bridge and to the west with the State of San Luis Potosi. To the north it borders with the municipality of Altamira, which is my hometown, and to the east with Madero City, forming these three cities together what is known as the Metropolitan Zone, sharing some of its services and businesses, educational and cultural activities, as well as employment sources.
El municipio de Tampico esta localizado al sureste del estado de Tamaulipas. Al sur colinda con el estado de Veracruz con el cual se une por el Puente de Tampico y al oeste con el estado de San Luis Potosí. Al norte limita con el municipio de Altamira, que es donde vivo, y al este con Ciudad Madero, formando estas tres ciudades lo que se conoce como Zona Metropolitana compartiendo algunos servicios, actividades empresariales, educativas y culturales, así como fuentes de empleo.
Actualmente el gobierno municipal en conjunto con el gobierno estatal trabajan en un proyecto llamado “Mega-Proyecto Laguna del Carpintero” que incluye entre otras cosas la construcción de un centro de convenciones, un acuario, un hotel y un centro comercial.
